Going Back For More

Of all the treks I’ve had the pleasure of heading out on, three stand out vividly with pain and anguish just as memorable as the terrain I crossed.  Hiking the length of Unalaska Island in the Aleutians, Hiking up and over to Grey Glacier in Chile and two different stretches of the Pacific Crest Trail where I didn’t carry enough water trying to save weight.

At the beginning of the New Year I decided that would not pass up any adventurous opportunities that presented themselves.  I spent several days looking at my resources and means to see if I could pull off another attempt at the Pacific Crest Trail.  As it turns out if I exercise a little financial discipline I can do it.  So while probably not the most responsible thing I could be doing now – I’m set on making it work.

I’ve decided to head out again in 2012 to  conquer the PCT.  I plan to continue working through March and then take off the beginning of April and start hiking north between the 9th and 13th.

I don’t really have much planning to do.  I have all the gear, my itinerary is updated for a slower start and the updated maps are ready to print.  I have some changes to my approach this year but to find out more, your going to have to once again start reading the posts over at my PCT site Dans Walk.

Like last year about this time, posts on this site will slowly dwindle as I start spending more time preparing for the trail.  Also like last year I want to take a moment to thank all the visitors, readers and comments.  While I’m not always sure why people stop by and visit, they do and it is one of the few things that keeps me going. – Thanks.
